Main Aims

  • To introduce and practice expressions to state routines

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide review and practice of language used for describing sentence elements such as verbs, prepositions and nouns

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (8-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will share the link of the Routines Jamboard and screen share with Ss with pictures of routine activities. T will ask Ss "What are the people in these pictures doing?", and "Do you know the word for these things?" Then, T will show Ss to go to the second slide of the Google Jamboard. This slide has the reading activity for the students. T will ask Ss to read the reading activity for 5 mins. T will ask S "How long are we reading for?" "5 minutes" After the 5 minutes are complete, T will share the link to the Gist Task Google Form. T will tell Ss "Answer these questions. You have 3 minutes" T will ask S "How long do you have to answer these questions?" "3 minutes" Then Ss will discuss the answers to the Gist Questions in OCFB.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T will share screen and display the 3rd board of the Jamboard. This board has the target language for review. The words are "Get up," "Start work," "Get Home," and "Go to Sleep." Each phrase has pictures associated with the meaning but the pictures are jumbled. T will elicit where the pictures ought to go to get meaning from Ss. Then there are jumbled times of day that correspond with the meanings of the phrases as well. T will elicit where the times of day best fit for each phrase. T will then elicit the word types for the elements of the phrases to cover their form. T will ask Ss "What kind of word is 'Get'?", "What kind of word is 'up'?", "What kind of word is 'home'?" and "What kind of word is 'Start'?" T will drill pronunciation with Ss as needed.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T will then share the link to the Routines Controlled Practice Google Form to Ss. T will instruct Ss to work on the Google Form. "Please work on the Google Form for 5 mins" T will check with S "How long do you have to finish this?" "5 minutes." Then Ss will share answers in OCFB and the class will discuss answers.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T will then share the link for the Routines Free Practice Google Form. T will instruct Ss "Work on this Google Form in pairs for 5 mins." Then T will ask Ss "Is this an individual activity or a pair activity?" "Pair" And "How long do you have?" "5 Minutes" T will place Ss in BOR and they will complete task. Then class will return for OCFB. Students will discuss their routines with class.

Feedback (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with correction of mistakes from practice activities.

T will provide feedback as needed based on notes from the practice activities.
