selin selin

TP 3
Pre-Intermediate level

Description

In this lesson students will be doing speaking about present simple and present continuous and also practice the question forms of them. The lesson starts with warm up questions such as “what am I doing right now” and “what do I do for living” to set the context of present simple & continuous tenses. They will be doing a grammar exercise in pairs (task 1), then WC FB. For the task 2 they will write the question forms of the sentences from task 1 in pairs, WC FB again and finally semi-controlled speaking practice with “find out who” and WC FB and error correction of the target language.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation and through WC activities in the context of personal information.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practice the question forms of present continuous and present simple tenses.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set the context and engage students

In the leading stage T will elicit the TL(present simple & present continuous) by asking them some questions such as “what am I doing right now?” they will say “teaching”-→ “Selin is teaching in a language school.” “What do we say when we want to talk about in general? “What do I do for living?”-→ Selin teaches in a language school.”

Grammar(Task 1) (8-10 minutes) • To provide practice on present simple and present continuous

(Controlled Practice) Students will be doing task 1(choosing the right answer) in pairs and they will be doing both speaking and grammar at the same time with this activity. After they finish WC FB will be given with error corrections.

Question Practice (Task 2) (8-10 minutes) • To highlight the question forms of present simple and present continuous + speaking

(Controlled Practice) The students will be using sentences from task 1 in order to make questions by asking "you" for each sentence. They will be working with the same partners while making the questions. After they finish the task we will check the answers together.

Productive Task(speaking- Task 3) (12-15 minutes) • To work through the TL once more with a fun activity and practicing productive skills( speaking + listening)

(Semi-Controlled Practice) They are going to find someone who... and ask them two follow up questions. Therefore this is the most important activity of the lesson where each student needs to interact with others and create their own questions regarding to the answer.

Feedback and Error Correction (6-7 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

After they finish task 3, I will do a WC FB asking them to give me some new information from what they have got in order to monitor the common mistakes and do the error correction.
