Description

This lesson will improve student's listening skills so that they may practice reading for gist and detail while learning about homes

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed listening practice using a text about homes

Subsidiary Aims

  • Teaching vocabulary to enhance understanding of text

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The main question I am going to ask through jamboard is what do students like about their home. I will give an example about what I like about my home. I will say something like I like live in the mountains and I like watching the sunset. Then each student will say what they like their home.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I'm going to go over the Meaning Pronunciation and Form of air conditioning, central heating, and the word fit in the context of being healthy. I

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

So this first task will have students listen to the audio text once and send me a pm with answers to two questions. We will then do OCFB

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-14 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

This second time we will listen to the text again and answer questions in more detail. This time we will go into break out rooms in pairs so everyone can discuss. A LINK TO THE AUDIO MUST BE PROVIDED to help in comprehension. Five minutes for open class feedback?

Post-Reading/Listening (8-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Students will respond to what they think about the text. Depending on time I might swap people in breakout rooms just so they have someone else to talk to. Or I might do this as a group depending on how I feel. Give feedback to the text and some error correction as time allows.
