Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of "How often,,,?" and time expressions in the context of habits and routines

Subsidiary Aims

  • to give Ss controlled writing and speaking practice for accuracy

Procedure

Lead in (5 minutes) • To test the Ss' knowledge of the target language

T starts the lesson with writing on the WB "GS" and asks Ss to guess "what does it mean?" their response will be Galatasaray,Turkish football team, then writes "FB" and asks them the same question. of course they will say Fanarbahce, Turkish football team, but this time is not. T draw sth on the WB to indicate to Facebook. The following questions will be (how often do you use Facebook?", "How often do you say I love you mom?" and "How often do you eat your nails?". So, T starts with an interesting topics to practice on "How often" and to lead in to the next stage.

Time expressions (10 minutes) • To set the task

T gives a clear instruction how to put the words in order and hands the OH (1) to Ss asking them to do it in pairs. Then, T elicits the answers on the WB writing the first question. From question No. 2 to 5, T only writes the time expressions. As for question No. 6, T writes it on the WB in order to explain it in the next stage (see the HO 1).

Grammar Point (12 minutes) • To explain the feature of time expressions and practice on them

T makes sure that Ss understand the day, week, month and year. Next, T explains the use of every, once a, twice a and three times using a cline to make them clear (see the WB from the language analysis). Then, T clarify the position of "never" in the sentence. In pair, Ss will complete the diagram with the expression from the box (see the exercise 1).Then, Ss will come to the WB to stick the expressions in order (see the HO 4). As a kind of FB, Ss will mingle and do the survey (see the HO 2) by asking each other and write names.

Habits (10 minutes) • To practice on asking questions about habits

T tries to mime some verbs in the box (see the HO 3) and asks Ss to complete the questions with verbs. In pair, Ss ask each other these questions and answer them using the time expressions, which they are still on the WB. Ss might mingle and ask each other depending on time. T shows flashcards about the verbs in the box and tries to elicit what the Ss have done so far.

Production (8 minutes) • To do an activity practicing on writing and speaking

In the extra time, Ss draws their partner's face on a piece of paper and names under them. Next, Ss will come to the Board and then will mingle and go to other's papers randomly writing 2 "How often" questions. afterwards, Ss will go back to their places and start asking each other the questions and answer them.
