Description

In this lesson, students will have an opportunity to develop their listening and speaking skills related to the topic 'business tv program'.

Main Aims

  • To provide students with gist, detailed and specific information for listening.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide Ss fluency in speaking skills and develop their speaking ability.

Procedure

Warmer/ Lead- in (2-3 minutes) • To introduce the Ss to the topic, set lesson context, engage the students.

I will start the lesson by showing the picture on page 52-53. I ask the students ' What is the picture about?' and want them to speak about what they see in the picture.

Speaking (3-4 minutes) • To make the students anticipate what the video is about by usind related vocabulary in the topic of 'business'

The teacher asks the students about type of situation and the teacher divides them in pairs. The students will try to predict the type of the situation the DVD clip shows.

Gist- reading (3-5 minutes) • to provide students with gist reading to get the main idea of the video.

The students will read the text and will check their predictions whether they are true or false after the reading.

While-listening (10-12 minutes) • To provide the students some skills for listening for detail.

I will give clear and simple instructions about the activities and will deliver the handouts. I have two activities to do for the listening task. I will show the DVD . In ex. 3 they will tick the things happening in the video. I will get F/B quickly and write the answers on the board. We will start e 4a and the students will work pairs. They will read the questions related to the dvd and answer them together. The students will watch the dvd again and will check their answers.

Pre- listening (3-5 minutes) • To enable the students understand the main idea of the listening.

In ex 5a. the students will listen to a track talking about a typical day of somebody's life.And they just try to understand whether she likes her job or not.

Functional language gap-fill (3-6 minutes) • To make the students elicit the functional language.

In this ex 5b, there are blanks and the students will fill them alone.However I will do the first exercise as an example.

Listening for the specific information (3-5 minutes) • To provide the students to look for more information.

The students will listen to the track (4.7) again in e 5c. The teacher will get the quick F/B.

Post-listening (3-5 minutes) • To enable the students practise about the listening they have listened.

There are some notes such as; 'hours of work, tasks you have to do, people you spend your day with...etc. The students will write a typical of their lives with the help of the notes. This will be individual work.Finally, they will tell the others what a typical day for them is like and if it is necessary, the teacher will make error corrections.
