Main Aims

  • To introduce and provide practice for writing an online blog

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about text analysis to comprenhend style and linking words in the context of travel

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will ask students the following questions Do you write a blog or a diary when you travel? Do you know someone who does? Do you like reading other people's blogs? Yes/no, Why?

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Students read the two texts and will write on the chatbox their answers. They will pay attention to the following: READ TIM'S TRAVEL BLOG about arriving in Jakarta Indonesia and tick the only topics he does not write about. HIS FLIGHT TO JAKARTA YES ANIMALS NO THE WEATHER YES THE TRAFFIC YES THE PEOPLE YES FOOD YES TOURIST PLACES YES Students will have 2 minutes to do the activity and then we will check as a whole group.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

STEP ONE.- In this stage, students will read "how to write a blog individually". STEP TWO -Students will do the word wall for linkers. https://wordwall.net/play/24333/486/207 (answers in padlet) STEP THREE- students will use the linkers to fill in the gaps https://wordwall.net/play/24332/836/694 ANSWERS 1.-I slept most of the way, so I am not tired 2.-When I got off the plane, I noticed the heat first. 3.-It was really fresh and full of flavour. 4.-The taxi driver was very friendly, but he didn't speak much English. 5.-I decided to have nasi goreng because it's the Indonesian national dish. STEP 4 I will show ss the model of a blog

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Students will choose a topic to write about. Possible topics: a) A holiday experience. b) your first day doing something (job, course). c) a new place you visited recently. Students will use linking words and follow the sample shown. Students take notes about : Where you were. How you felt What you did and saw Who you talked to. Students will go into breakrooms and they will post their writings in the PADLET so they can read each other's blogs. They can also comment at the bottom of the blog to share ideas or comments on both context and language accuracy.

Feedback and Error Correction (5-6 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

I will ask students to choose one blog or I would nominate a student to share his or her blog I will use the zoom whiteboard to give group FB DEC.
