Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will have students discuss the following questions in OC. Do you normally make arrangements with people by phone? What kind of things do you arrange? Do you prefer calling or texting?

Exposure (4-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I will have students listen to a conversation and answer the following gist and specific information questions. Why does Annie call Rachel? To arrange a birthday meal When is Rachel available? She is available on monday

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Free Practice (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will have students role play an invitation by use of the following activity Work in pairs. You are planning a surprise farewell party for a friend that is leaving the country soon. You will each play a different role. Student A: You will invite your friend to the farewell party (see extra details in the zoom chat) Student B: You will respond to your friend’s invitation (See extra details in the zoom chat) I will send those students who are playing the role of student A the following instructions in the chat: Student A> 1. Suggest several days to your partner to see when he is available. 2. Ask him to bring a drink for the party (you can choose which drink) 3. Remind him that it is a surprise party who he shouldn’t tell anyone. I will those students who are playing the role of student B the following instructions in the chat: Student B > 1. Reject the first two days your partner suggests and accept the third day. 2. Ask him the time of the party. 3. Ask if you can bring a friend.
