Main Aims

  • To introduce and give practice in vocabulary of people and things, in plural regular and irregular and their spellings. Sub aim: speaking

Subsidiary Aims

  • Speaking practice

Procedure

warmer (4-5 minutes) • To get students to practice spelling some words of their choice

I will ask students to write 4 words of things they can see in the class and then to check spelling with their partner.

Lead in (2-3 minutes) • To get students to know the difference between people and things.

This stage can be elicited from students' examples from the previous exercise. If they didn't provide suitable examples, I can provide some to show them the difference between people and things.

Vocabulary of people (8-10 minutes) • To introduce and give practice in vocabulary of people to stdetns

Students are going to work in pairs for this stage. I show them an example of what they are going to do. I show them a picture of me and ask them yes/no questions like; Am I a baby? Am I a man? Am I a woman? Then they have to match the picture to the right word they've been given to complete this exercise. They have to glue the pictures and words on a paper and then glue the paper on the wall. Once they're done, a whole class feedback is going to be conducted to make sure they got the right answer. At this point I give them a handout which is a page from Face to Face textbook and I ask them to complete exercise 1.

Vocabulary of things (8-10 minutes) • To introduce and give practice to vocabulary of things

I ask students to look at the picture and ask them about the person they see in the picture. At this point they are supposed to identify the person as "a woman". From them I ask them what is she working on... they are supposed to say "a computer" Then I ask them about the number on the computer in the picture, they have to say "3". Then I show them the same number on the computer in the classroom and I show them other realia items with numbers on. Then, I give every pair slips of paper with the words and they have to walk in class and stick the right word on the item. Once They,re done, we write the correct answers on the board as feedback.

Plurals (6-8 minutes) • introduce plural forms of the words

I refer to chairs in the classroom to show them the singular "a chair" and then the plural "chairs". The same could be done with "a watch" and "watches", "a diary" and "diaries" and then " a man" and "men". All those examples to be written on the board and then students have to do exercise 4 on their paper. This one to be done individually, and they check in pairs. Then they write answers on the board.

exercise for plural (4-5 minutes) • students get further practice on the plural forlm
