Elementary level

In this lesson, the ss will review and practise the use of both appearance and feeling adjectives. We will use short paragraphs, speaking, and finish with listening.

Abc Student's Book

Main Aims

  • By the end of this lesson, ss will have practised adjectives in the context of describing appearances and feelings.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practise listening and reading for specific information

Warmer/Lead-in (5-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Focus students' attention on the PowerPoint pictures and try to elicit as much information from them as possible. For example: Who is very tall, quite tall, and not tall?

Test #1 (4-9 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

Ss will read the two accompanying short texts. Then, they will guess the identity of the two people.

Teach (5-10 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

Ss will look at three different photos in the PowerPoint, and then identify who is very tall, quite tall, and not very tall.

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

In pairs, ss will match the appearance adjective on the left with the suitable picture on the right. Then will also respond to "How tall are they?" by using quite, very, and not very in front of an adjective.

Free practice (5-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students will practice in pairs. Each will write 5 clues and the other student should guess who this is.
