Prepositions of Time

Description

In this lesson, the students will learn how to use the prepositions of time with the present simple. They will ask and answer questions using the prepositions of time.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, practice and review of prepositions of time, in the context of routine, habits and activities.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation using the prepositions of time, in the context of routines, habits and activities.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Guessing game: 1. Each student writes three sentences about themselves (I get up at 6:00 am). Two are true one is not. 2. After writing the sentences, each student reads their sentences out loud to their partner. 3. The other student will then guess which one is not true. After they finish, I will give them feedback on accuracy.

Test #1 (5 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

Do exercise 22. 1. Read the questions. 2. Answer the questions individually. 3. Check the answers together.

Teach (15 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

At this stage, I will clarify and demonstrate the following: 1. Meaning, by eliciting and asking CCQs. 2. Form by breaking down the sentences and understand how the grammar works. 3. Pronunciation by asking the students to drill individually and chorally and draw their attention to the stresses in each sentence.

Test #2 (5 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

Do the second About You exercise. 1. Read the questions. 2. Answer the questions individually. 3. Check the answers together.

Free practice (10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

1. Create a daily schedule for yourself and then read it to your partner. 2. After reading each other's schedules, ask questions like when do you get up? What time is your first class? Etc. 3. Share your schedule with me. 4. I will provide feedback on accuracy and fluency.

Homework (10-15 minutes) • To provide extra practice of the target language.
