Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. Have learners talk about 1 or 2 questions related to the topic of the lesson. (e.g. “Do you think first impressions are important?”) I will ask my students to discuss the following two questions: 1. Do you think first impressions are important? 2. How do you make the best first impression? I will ask students to discuss these questions in pairs in breakout rooms.

Pre-teach Vocabulary/Listening (7-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I will ask students to match the following words with their definition. MEANING 1. After thinking about my poor grade, my CONCLUSION was that I must study harder. CCQ: what was I thinking about? What was the result? 2. Maria had much CRITICISM about the bad food. CCQ: Was Maria happy about the food? Did she share her feelings? 3. Their PREFERENCE was to be inside because of the bad weather. What are they basing this decision on? FORM I will elicit the form from students Pronunciation 1. I will model words 2. I will ask students to identify the number of syllables and stress 3. I will ask my students to drill

While-Reading Practice #1 (6-7 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

1. The learners will read a text to get the general idea. I will give my students 3 minutes only and this will be individual work. They will then answer general questions about the text. (This exercise will utilize Google Forms) 2. The learners check the answers in pairs (via breakout rooms) before OCFB (Open Class Feedback)

While-Reading/Listening #2 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

1. Tell learners to read carefully and answer detail questions about the text. (Ex 2) (on Google Forms) 2. The learners check the answers in pairs (via BORs) before OCFB. They will read the text and determine / decide what is the best answer. I will ask my students to justify their answers.

Post (Respond to the text)/Discussion (10-13 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

1. I will have learners respond to the contents of the text A. “Do you agree with everything in the text?/why or why not?” B. “Tell a partner about a time your first impressions were wrong about a person.” (This will utilize breakout rooms) 2. Conduct feedback on the task. 3. Delayed Error Correction (DEC).
