Description

In this lesson, students will review the adverbs of frequency in the context of describing healthy lives. They will notice the use of these adverbs in a text about Okinawa as well as use them in a speaking activity to talk about their lifestyle.

Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, ss will have practised the adverbs of frequency in the context of describing healthy lives.

  • To practise reading for gist and specific information.
  • To practise speaking using adverbs of frequency

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Project a picture of Takanashi (a Japanase Character) and have the students guess how old he is and where he is from?

Exposure (6-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

-Have the students read the introduction about Takanashi and match the different adverbs of frequency to the given percentages on Jamboard. -Put the students into breakout rooms to check their answers. -Provide the students with an answer key.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

-Ask the students to read the text quickly to find examples of the adverbs of frequency used in the text. -Tell the students to write the sample sentences in the zoom chat box. -use ICQs to check their understanding.

Clarification (3-5 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Elicit the grammar rule of the use of adverbs of frequency using three examples of the sentences from the text.

Controlled Practice (5-6 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Have students complete given sentences with adverbs of frequency to make it true for them. Have them write the three sentences in the chat box. provide reinforcements where needed.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

-Pre-teach the word unusual, portions, martial arts before the reading activity. - Have the students independently read the given text about the people of Okinawa and match the different parts with the sub-headings. -Put them in breakout rooms to check their answers. -Have the students find out 3 reasons why the people of Okinawa live a long time.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Demo the speaking activity. Have the students ask each other questions and answer using the different adverbs of frequency.
