In this lesson, the students learn some personality adjectives within the context of 'star signs'. The lesson will start with a WB exercise to help them practice the star signs that they have learnt in the previous lesson. After that, the target vocabulary will be taught through eliciting the meaning, indicating its form and pronunciation on the WB. Once the students learn the target vocabulary, they will scan the text to answer detailed questions. Afterwards, they will be asked to do another exercise about finding the noun versions of these adjectives from the text. At the end of the lesson, the students will read their own star sign and discuss with their partners whether it is true for them or not.

Main Aims

  • To provide Ss with some personality adjectives by analyzing their meanings, forms, pronunciation and stress.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To enable Ss to scan a text to practise the target vocabulary and then to read it in detail for pair discussion.


Lead in (6-10 minutes) • To enable the Ss to revise the vocabulary of the previous lesson in order to make a good transition to the new target vocabulary.

The lesson starts with a WB activity so that they could stand up and feel more active and motivated from the beginning. Each student picks a paper clip from the deck and looks at the picture on it carefully. After all the Ss study their own pics, they are asked to draw the symbol of the star signs onto the WB at once. I will draw a chart to the WB beforehand so that each student draws his pic in the correct order. They will be given about 3 min. for this activity. They will not surely draw beautiful pics as they are not expected to be artists but they will enjoy looking at the funny drawings of each other. Once that activity finishes, I will ask them to sit down and I will give them each a piece of paper with the names of the star signs on it. They will work in pairs for 3 min. and try to guess and revise the names of the signs on the WB. Once they have finished, I will get a WC FB for the names of these signs and I will write them under each drawing.

Testing Vocabulary (7-10 minutes) • To enable the students test their knowledge about the target vocabulary which they are partially familiar with.

As it is my approach to test their target vocabulary before teaching it to the Ss, I am planning to give them a handout with 'a definiton matching task'. The students will work individually and try to match the target words with their correct definitions.

Teaching Vocabulary (10-12 minutes) • To provide the Ss with the correct meaning, form and phonemic analysis and stress of target language

I will tell them that I would like to introduce them with my family and friends. I will show them some pictures and make up small stories to help Ss to learn the personality adjectives via elicitation, CCQ and drilling. Once they comprehends all the meaninings, I will teach them the form, pronunciation and the stress of these words by writing them onto the WB. Afterthat I will ask them to drill the words to check their pronunciation.

Reading for Scanning (8-10 minutes) • To enable the students to become skillful at scanning the text for getting answers to detailed questions.

The Ss are given a worksheet with some questions on it about the text. The Ss work in pairs and try to find correct answers to the questions by scanning the text. After they have answered all the questions, the teacher gets the answers from every pair. After that, the Ss are asked as a WC to check the personality adjectives for a while and to look for the noun versions of them from the text. They are expected to do a fill the gap activitiy to write the noun versions of each adjective. Then, the teacher checks the pronunciation of each noun.

Post Reading Discussion (5-7 minutes) • To provide them with an interesting text to help them share their opinions about the lesson topic.

The students are asked to read the part of the text which is related to their horoscope. Afterwards, they work in pairs and talk about their opinions about the subject by comparing their horoscope with their real characteristics.
