Main Aims

  • by the end of this session, students will be better able to describe themselves or describe somebody else using the new vocabulary

  • to provide listening for gist and specific to practice the target language

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

the warmer: 1- T will show Ss a guess my name game (in the PowerPoint). 2- the game is as the following: - T will show the first picture (an ear) - ask Ss what's the first letter of the picture - do the same for each picture till you complete (Esraa) 3- ask Ss to do it individually T asks ICQs: -you will write or draw? draw -draw any pictures or pictures of the letters in your name? of the letters in my name -will you write the letter under the picture or the picture only? the picture only 4- ask them to check in pairs and guess each other's name the lead-in 1- T will show the Ss the cartoon picture (in the PowerPoint) 2- T will talk about the character and why he/she likes it 3- T asks Ss to talk in pairs about their favorite character and why? 4- monitor 5- take the feedback from them

Test #1 (5-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

1- T will chest handout 1 2- Ss will work individually asks ICQs: - will you work individually or in pairs? individually - is it okay to use the dictionary? yes, it is - will you write anything or choose from the box? from the box 3- T will give Ss handout 1 4- monitor and make sure they're on task 5- ask them to check the answers in pairs 6- give them the answer key

Teach (10-15 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

1- T will set a context about the vocabulary 2- elicit the meaning from the ss 3- use CCQs as clarified in the language analysis 4- drill the vocabs many times for the pronunciation 5- write the vocabs on the board or use the PowerPoint (everything about the vocabs is clarified in the language analysis)

Test #2 (5-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

listening for gist: 1- T will say ( we will listen to the audio and we have three women describing their personality) 2- chest handout 2 3- ask ICQs: -how many women do we have? 3 women - will you read the questions first or listen first? read first - will you work individually or in pairs? individually 4- give them the handout to read 5- play the audio 6- ask them to check in pairs 7- Give them the answer key listening for specific: 1- tell them we will listen again 2- chest handout 3 ask ICQs: - will you answer while listening or after? while - will you fill in the gaps? yes 3- play the audio 4- after they finished, ask them to check in pairs 5- give them the answer key 6- provide feedback if needed

Free practice (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

the speaking part: 1- ask each of them to choose one of his/her family members or a friend 2- ask ss to describe him/her using 3 adjectives and why he/ she choose that one? T asks ICQs: -you will choose one person or more? one -you will describe him/her with 3 adjectives or more? 3 3- give them time to think 4- ask them to work in pairs 5- monitor while they're speaking 6- provide a content feedback
