In this lesson, students are going to be taugh phrasal verbs.

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of verb phrases in the context of staying fit and healthy

Subsidiary Aims

  • Reading/skimming and answering multiple choice within a text

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Have a question on the PowerPoint with 2 or three pictures of activities or equipment's they may find in the gym. Ask students what the things on the board are called? then ask them: Do you go to the gym or exercise? Talk together for 2 minutes Monitor Have a class feedback by picking multiple students

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

Provide a table students will answer on the PowerPoint Demonstrate to students by asking them what matches with (spend) If the faster student replied ask ICQ: Do you agree? time / money if they did not understand, demonstrate another example. Pass out the paper and start answering - 2 minutes Monitor let them discuss the answers in pairs - 30 seconds Show the answer key on the PowerPoint

Teach (15-20 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

From the first test, teacher is going to focus on words they struggled with by focusing on meaning, pronunciation and form. When explaining the for, REMEMBER TO SAY: THIS WORD AND THIS WORD ARE FRIEND, THAT'S WHY THEY GO TOGETHER. if students asked what the grammar name for it is, I will explain that it is collocations. I will use stories and visuals to explain the words they had a problem with.

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

Students will be given a text that includes a short passage and within this passage there will be multiple choice. for example: I don't do/take escalators. I will Demonstrate by focusing on the PowerPoint and pointing at a sentence, and ask them: which one is correct? do or take. (TAKE) if they don't understand, do another multiple choice in front of them by eliciting the answer from them. then check in pairs and provide an answer key for them to look at on the PowerPoint

Free practice (13-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

During this stage, I will put a question on the PowerPoint: I will tell a student to ask me the question How could you have a healthier life? answer with: I love McDonalds burgers but it is not healthy, I have to stop eating them. I should also do more exercise. Now ask a student, to ask another student the question. after they answer, let them discuss in pairs, then ask them to move around. Feedback stage will come afterwards
