Description

In this lesson students will practice using comparative adjectives to compare places in the context of planning a holiday in Egypt.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in the context of planning a holiday in Egypt

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide listening for specific information practice in the context of planning a holiday in Egypt

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

display pictures of two places, people, or things that are different from each other to clarify the comparison and ask the students " what did you notice about them?

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Show the students a picture of Patrick and Julia on the screen and ask them to listen to an audio about them planning a holiday in Egypt and to take notes of where does each person wants to go , and to find one reason why they want to go there Teacher plays the audio and pause it to demonstrate and students listen to continue students then check their answers in pairs and then listen to the audio again Students check the answer key on the screen

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Ask the students to work on exercise 6b to fill in the gaps with the comparative form of the adjectives in the brackets. Demonstrate the first two gaps Students then check their answers in pairs and check the answer key on the board

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Divide the students into four groups, each group has a city ( Alexandria, Hurghada, Dahab, Luxor and Aswan) Ask each group to think about their city and compare it to the other city (Alexandria to Dahab) (Hurghada to Luxor and Aswan) and ask them think why their city is better than the other city Students then move around the class and share their thoughts with their partners and ask them to find a city that they would like to go to and why

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

While students comparing their city to another city take notes of the errors made during the productive task. Do OCF to share their thoughts about their cities Do delayed error correction
