Description

In this lesson, students will practice and revise collocations with the word 'look'. I will set up context by having them relate pictures of celebrities to descriptions of them. They will practice reading, speaking and using the collocations: 'good-looking, 'look forward to', look like', and 'looking for'.

Materials

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation using collocations with the word 'look' in the context of people, celebrities

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Bring up the topic of celebrities. Share my screen with the Google Jamboard with pictures and names of celebrities. Give Ss link to the Google Jamboard so they can look at the descriptions. Have the Ss match my descriptions to the celebrities.

Presentation through the text (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Share screen with the script for a conversation that uses TL. Ask two Ss to read the conversation. (2 min) Give Ss the link to a Google Forms with a multiple choice question where they have to choose what the conversation is about. (2 min) I will send them to BOR in pairs to check answers. (2 min) Will ask students why they chose the answer they did. (2 min)

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Share screen with Google Slides where Ss can pair up meaning with a collocation. Give Ss link to the Google Slides and have them match meaning with collocations in BOR. (2 min) Compare answers with the whole class while I share my screen. (2 min) Share my screen with the Google Slides with my visual aid. Explain form and pronunciation. (4 min)

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Give students the link to a Google Forms with sentences where they have to fill in the blanks with TL. Have Ss fill out the Google Forms. (4 min) Send Ss to BOR to compare answers. (2 min) Check answers with Ss. (1 min)

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Share screen with Google Slides with four incomplete sentences for Ss to complete for themselves while talking to each other. Give Ss the link to the Google Slides. Send Ss to breakout rooms to answer the questions. (4 min) DEC for mistakes Ss might have made, and check their answers. (4 min)
