Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson students will have practiced guided writing in the context of writing reviews for restaurants.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students in the topic of making reviews and recommending restaurants to our friends.

1. Greet my students! Thank them for coming! 2. Display picture of different restaurants in Cairo or throughout Egypt. 3. Ask Ss, ex: Pizza Hut or Dominoes? Have you been there? When did you go? Why do you choose this? Would you invite your friends here? 4. Ask Ss, to discuss together these same questions about the restaurants listed on the PP. You have three minutes! 5. Ask Ss, have any of you guessed what we are talking about today?... 5. If they don't answer go into the first Vocab word which is...

Pre-Teach Vocabulary (5-6 minutes) • To pre-teach difficult, or useful vocabulary for coming productive tasks.

Focus on Model of text type (3-4 minutes) • To be given a model to follow for the writing task. Giving the Ss the opportunity to search for specific information.

1. Set the reading task. 'Chest' the instructions. Tell the Ss, you are giving them a review. Ask Ss: Read the questions, then search for the information in the review, then circle the correct answer. I will give you 2 minutes. Again, do not read, word for word. (Mime) Ask ICQ's: - Are you going to read the questions first? Yes. - Are you going to read quickly or slowly? Quickly. - I am giving you how many minutes? 2 minutes. 2. Distribute HO#1. 3. Check in pairs. 4. Give answer key on PP.

Useful Language - Genre Analysis (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

1. 'Chest Instructions' 2. Tell Ss, Look at the review again, and tell Ss fill the table with positive and negative words and phrases. 3. Demo example on worksheet. Productive Task(s) - Writing Task (7-12 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills.

1. Set the task. Tell Ss, choose a restaurant in Egypt you have been to, write a review! One paragraph. We will post them on the walls, read the reviews and we will decide which restaurant, do you want to go to. Look at the example if you need help. I will give you 5-7 minutes. 2. Ask ICQ's: - Are you choosing a restaurant? Yes. - Are you writing sentences or a paragraph? Paragraph. - How many minutes do you have? 5-7 minutes. 3. Monitor well and write error corrections during this time.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Teachers notes: - Read the writing tasks as they're being written & during activity. - Listen well throughout lesson. - Monitor well during all tasks. - Write a variety of corrections apply different ways to do so.
