Pre-Intermediate level


In this lesson students learn new vocabulary about jobs through a guided exercise that they work in pairs, then a controlled practice on how to pronounce them, semi-controlled practicing what they learnt about jobs with “find someone who” game and finally learn some questions about travel with matching questions to answers.

Main Aims

  • To provide students vocabulary about jobs and question phrases about travel such as how do you get to work/university/school?

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide students fluency with speaking exercise find out who and some pronunciation with the exercise 2 in the book.


Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will start talking about myself, giving examples about myself such as "I work as a teacher in ITI. I work for ITI and I work with other teachers. Then ask them about their jobs to set the context.

Language (10-15 minutes) • To teach some useful vocabulary

I will stick flashcards on the board that say "with", "for", "as" and "in" while flashcards that have different jobs on them will be distributed on the floor. And then I will ask them to stand up choose the right one and stick it under the right answer with their partner. Immediate WC FB will be given after each answer.

Drilling (4-5 minutes) • To highlight the pronunciation of new vocabulary

I will pronounce the new vocabulary, ask them to repeat after me, a drilling exercise. Highlight where the stress is within the given words.

Speaking (10-15 minutes) • To practice the use of new vocabulary

Ss will be given find out who hand outs and will try to find out who works where and describe their jobs. Therefore they will be both doing a speaking exercise also practice the use of new vocabulary.

Vocabulary (5-6 minutes) • T`o teach or remind some vocabulary about travelling.

Match questions to answers hand out will be given and students will be working in pairs to find the right answers. Reminding them that "how long..?" asks about time and "how far...?" asks about distance. Also establishing that "get" used in questions 1 and 2 means "go". WC FB will be given when they finish..
