In this lesson, students will read about different traditions women do when having a girls night out in two different places. They will read for gist and specific information.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in and pre-teach vocabulary (5-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will show them a picture of two women smoking shisha, and ask them the following; What’s happening here? What are they wearing? Do you think they’re Egyptian? After that I will show them another picture of five women in a club, and ask them: Where they are? Do you think they are Egyptian? Where are they? What are they wearing? Pre-teach Vocabulary: Show them a picture of a sweater, and elicit the answer Make up: Show them a lipstick and if it doesn't work show them a picture of a other products and elicit. Literature: Show them a picture of Nagib Mahfouz and ask them. Macho country men: Try to elicit it from them.

Pre-Reading/ Reading for gist (6-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

2B. Reading for Gist Show them questions in a sheet, 1)What is Sabina wearing? 2)Where do you think Sabina lives? 3)What is Sharon wearing? 4)Where do you think Sharon lives? Provide them with the text. Look at the photos and read the text quickly, for one minute Now they have one minute to answer the questions. Answer Key: Preview in PowerPoint 1) A black sweater and trousers 2) Moscow 3) A long dress 4)Beijing

While-Reading/Listening #1 (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

2C Reading for specific information Demonstrate it by having it up on the PowerPoint, Show them the answered one, and then answer the top one in front of them. Give students 2 minutes to answer it alone, then give them one minute to compare answers with partners. provide answer key in front of them in PowerPoint while they are answering.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

2D: Show them the table on the PowerPoint Demonstrate it and then let them do it for 2 minutes followed by a one minute work in pairs. bring up answer key on the PowerPoint.

Post-Reading/Listening (6-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

2E provide it on the PowerPoint. demonstrate with someone using the 2d sheet, show them how to ask the question, and how to answer it, for example: T: Did Sabina go to a bar? S: Yes, she did Give students the chance to work in open pairs, followed by work in close pairs. Extra lesson if they finished early is put words in the past tense from a worksheet, They will be handed over a sheet with different words, I will have to demonstrate how to answer, and let them answer in pairs while I monitor.
