Description

In this lesson, students learn about the second conditional through guided discovery based on a reading text about superpowers. The lesson starts with discussion about movies. this is followed by jigsaw reading where students read and relate stories about superpowers. Finally there is some controlled practice through complete sentences and free practice via open discussion questions as speaking activity.

Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, students will be better able to speak about imaginary situations. This will be achieved by: - introducing the function of the second conditional.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of the second conditional in the context of superpowers

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. show the ss a picture of movies. 2. and ask them "what's your favorite movie?" 3. ask them to answer and say why? in groups. 4. give them time to speak 5. let them report back to me

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

show students 3 people are answering "What would you do if you were invisible for a day?" ask students to answer 2 questions

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will provide them with a sentence from the text.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will clarify the meaning using MPF technique.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

I will give them 4 questions to answer in groups

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language
