Main Aims

  • To understand how we can write a formal email and reproduce a new one based on the sample.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Teaching vocabulary and structures of the text and activating them.

Procedure

Greeting (1-2 minutes) • To warm up students and get them ready for class and give them a theme of the lesson.

-Teacher knocks at the door and says 'mail' then walk into the class with the postman's clothes and distributes the envelopes to the Ss.

Engagement (3-4 minutes) • To get the students ready for writing email and giving them a sense of the general story.

-Teacher asks students 'what am I doing?' and 'Do people still do this?', Teacher elicits till Ss mention 'Email'.(1min) -Teacher asks Mohadese to open her envelope and read the instruction.(2min) Instruction: describe two advantages of using Email in your group. ICQs :Are you going to write about disadvantages? No. Are you going to do it alone? No. -Students talk about the advantages that they have written and they choose the golden ones. (1min)

Study (7-9 minutes) • To read the Email and understand the concept and details of the Email then analyze the format.

-Teacher unblocks the blocking words through MECDIBLE. (sincerely, confirm) (1min) -Teacher asks one student to read the information box. -Teacher asks Roghaye to open her envelope and read the instruction. Instruction: read the Email and answer to this question 'Is this Email formal or informal?' (2min) ICQs : Are you going to read the email or information box? Email. Are you going to answer this question? Yes. -Cp: Teacher asks students to read the Email again and complete the blankets with the words in part (a). (2min) ICQs : Are you going to complete the email? Yes. Are you going to do it in your group? No.( answers are in Amir hossein and nazanin's envelopes.) -Teacher shows the sample of email and elicits the name of each part. Activation (7-10 minutes) • To get the students use the learned language and write an Email.

-Teacher asks one student to read the information box again then asks Amir Mohammed to open his envelope and read the instruction. (2min) Instruction : Decide how many nights you want to stay and the kind of room you need. And ask one 'Is there/are there...' question. (brainstorm) ICQs : Are you going to do it alone?No. Are going to make a question? Yes. Are you going to decide about the number of nights? Yes -Teacher asks students to write the first draft in their group, Students should reserve the house. (4min) ICQs : Are you going to write formally? Yes. Are you going to use your information? Yes. Are you going to use the rules? Yes - Teacher gives feedback to their Emails. (1min) -Teacher asks students to write the final draft at home and bring it next station.
