Description

In this lesson, ss will practice Reading for Inference in the context of drama and practice using Second If Conditional in the context of giving advice. They will also practice Speaking for Accuracy to give advice to a drama character and Speaking for Fluency to give advice.

Main Aims

  • By the end of this lesson, students will have practiced Skimming a drama text to infer the meaning of paragraphs. - By the end of this lesson, ss will be able to better use Second If Conditional in the context of giving advice to a drama character.

Subsidiary Aims

  • In this lesson ss will practice Speaking fo Accuracy to better use Second If Conditional to give advice. - In this lesson, ss will practice Speaking for Fluency to give advice.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Display the picture of Hamlet, and ask ss what is the most famous quote this character said. Elcitit "To be or not to be.." then ask: How is Hamlet feeling? (confused) What does he need? (Advice). Ask ss: In pairs, tell each other about something you need advice on.

Pre-Reading (3-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Ss will be given a vocabulary matching acitivity to draw their attention to use key words for reading instead of reading the whole text. For the sake of this demo, one word will be clarified 'tolerate'.

While-Reading/ #1 and 2 (5-5 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

For the sake of this demo, only instructins to these exercises will be given to ss and a walk-through it till the answers are displayed.

Post-Reading/Listening (1-1 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

This stage will be delayed till after the grammar lesson to provide Controlled Speaking Practice.
