In this lesson students learn and practice about wishes/if only +past participle through the listening of a recording about regret. The lessonstarts with a warm-up about Frank Sinatra and whether he has regrets or not. This is followed by a listening exercise where Ss listen and relate sentences to speakers. Finally there is some controlled practice through multiple choice and free practice via a final speaking activity.

Main Aims

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ss will listen to two minutes of Frank Sinatra's My Way to be able to answer the following sentences: Did you like the song? Yes Who sang? Frank Sinatra What is his nickname? Old Blue Eyes. What did he have a few of, but not enough to mention? Regrets. I will send them to BORs for three minutes.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Ss will listen to a recording of three people talking about their regrets to be able to fill in the blanks of the following statements they have heard: Speaker 1. I wish ____________________. I 'd tried. Speaker 2. I wish I_________. 'd listened to my sister. Speaker 3. I wish I____________________.'d been able to know her better. I wish she__________________.'d lived longer.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Ss will be given a set of slides to look at to provide Language Clarification by covering Meaning, Form and Pronunciation with the teacher. They will then go to Google Forms to complete a CP task of multiple choice to resolve together in teams in BORs.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ss will go to BORs in teams to discuss: -something you wish you'd learnt as a child.-a live event you wish you'd gone to.-something you wish you hadn't bought.- a famous person you wish you'd met. i will conduct a Delayed Error Correction to bring to the Ss attention any potential mistakes.
