Descriptive Writing ( People) - My Grandfather
Elementary , Grade 5,6 level


In this lesson, the students are going to correspond the steps of describing people into this essay. They will share their ideas about the description according to the appearance, personality , ethics ,and interests . After discussion, Speaking time will be changed into writing time.They will express their thoughts in sentences on their own under my supervision.

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I'll start my session with a discussion about the role and favor of our grandparents. The students may mention that they are the source of happiness to every family. Also, they are the main reason for gathering the family members together even every vacation or occasion. Moreover, they are so beneficial for their sons, daughters, and grandchildren as they have great experience in life and its problems . In addition to this, they are the main reference of culture, traditions, and customs.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

After the students will support me with adjectives for each step, they will write them in sentences. Appearance: describing his face and eye, hair and mustache, height, age, weight, and body built. Personality: wise, popular, generous, affectionate, kind, gentle, active, careful, social, advisory, modest,...etc Ethics: honorable, honest, trustworthy, respectful, fair, responsible, ...etc Interests: reading Quran, watching football matches, following the world news, ...etc.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

I'll highlight expressing the vocab. or adjectives in suitable paragraphs according to their type.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

I'll supervise my students during producing their writing skills through writing the paragraphs

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

I'll encourage my students to give me worthy sentences with main ideas and supporting details. I'll correct their grammatical and spelling mistakes.
