Main Aims

  • To provide review of Simple past vs present perfect (and continuous) in the context of talking about life highlights

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of talking about your life highlights

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (10-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students are greeted and welcomed to the class. Students are given the following context: Ask and answer these 2 questions: What are some of the highlights of your life so far? What important lessons have you learned? However, try to add more questions related to the topic While students work in breakout room, the teacher monitors. The students receive content feedback

Exposure (10-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Students are given the following context: Listen to the story and answer the question: What special things has each person done? While students listen, the teacher monitors. The teacher provides feedback. Note: Listening has to be done breaking in chunks the listening.

Clarification (12-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

The students are given the following context: Enter this link: https://forms.gle/KtMZXdJmz9NVy75P9. In it, you will see a text with the use of the target. Work together and answer. While the students work, the teacher monitors. The teacher provides feedback Note: Students do NOT SUBMIT the form

Controlled Practice (10-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Students are given the following Oxford (https://elt.oup.com/student/solutions/preint/grammar/grammar_05_022e?cc=global&selLanguage=en) in which they will be able to practice the targeted system.

Free Practice (12-12 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

The students are given the following context: Tell your group about 3 highlights of your life so far. Ask questions to find more information. While the students work, the teacher monitors. The students receive feedback. NOTE: Several rounds depending on the amount of students
