  • To provide gist, scan, detailed and inference reading practice using a text about leap year in the context of culture

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher asks question : Do you like to travel around the world?(when they answer the question teacher says ( if you want to travel around the world you need to know their culture ) Teacher show them a picture and ask them question : what is your idea about this picture? Teacher asks them to name some cultural connection!

Pre-Reading/Listening (6-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Teachers show the topic and tell them look at title (leap year) and want the Ss idea about it Teacher asks them How long is a year?

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Teacher shows them a question and ask them to answer it by skimming and scanning a reading questions (first paragraph)What is the leap year? How long is leap years? When is leap day? (second paragraph)Who created leap year? What are greeks and romans believed about leap year? Are people like this change? (third paragraph)In which countries people unblieved that leap years is unlucy and bad?why? (forth paragraph) Is 2021 a leap year? How do we know which years are leap years? (fifth paragraph) What are people called those who are born in the leap years? Why if you know some of them you should say happy birthday?

While-Reading/Listening #2 (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Teacher wants students to do filling gap in the book and then check it

Post-Reading/Listening (2-5 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Teacher says a new vocab and its meaning and synonym or antonym

follow up (2-5 minutes) • some extension task

Teacher should ask questions What is the next leap year? Are there lucky or unlucky in your country? Do you know some people around you that born in lead year?
