Describing people
Elementary level level


In this lesson, students will practice their listening, speaking, and writing skills in the context of describing people. they will learn and practice some adjectives in how to describe people's appearance. The students will have the opportunity to listen to a conversation about people's descriptions and answer questions for gist and specific information. They will use the adjectives in a variety of activities to prepare them for the post-listening in order to produce the taught adjective in a writing activity

Main Aims

  • listening : to provide the students with the skills of listening for gist and specific information in the context of describing people, as they are going to listen to a conversation in describing people's appearance.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Speaking and writing: to provide the students the opportunity to speak and describe themselves and write a description about someone's appearance.


Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students


Pre-Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible


While-Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks


While-Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks


Post-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned
