5th Grade Writing Routines level

Description

Student's will learn and practice the daily routines of preparing their learning space rapidly and efficiently in order to allow time for the lessons. The daily routines will be: - Placing belongings away - Clearing work space and preparing lesson materials. - Sitting with hands folded showing readiness. - Organizing Reading/Writing notebooks, folders, binders, homework books. Students will review Parts of Speech, punctuation, and quotation marks.

Main Aims

  • To provide time and practice for students to learn and understand the daily routines for the classroom.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide process writing practice of a Evidenced-based writing in the context of Students will review and understand R.A.C.E. evidence based writing and punctuation for 5th grade writing.
  • To provide gist and understanding of Parts of speech, punctuation and the importance of quotation marks.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students are cold called to review the arrival routines. Teacher has students practice routines by timing students for rewards. Students will review the quote of the day and cold call on what is a quote, punctuation, and R.A.C.E.

Exposure Routines/Writing Review (10-15 minutes) • To provide context for Daily routines, Quote, and R.A.C.E.

1. WG will review parts of speech discussed in previous class. T will check for understanding if needed. Students will then be cold called to place the correct quotation marks on a text provided on the white board. 2. Students will then review and Fill in R.A.C.E. as a WG

Clarification (3-5 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and practice to Whole group.

WG Clarify why they ought to write in R.A.C.E. and it's Importance. T will provide sentence starters for each and have students provide sentence enders for R.A.C.E.

Controlled Practice (10-15 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

1. T will hand out a worksheet and students will read and identify where the quotes are, and where to place the symbols. - T will model for understanding. 2. Student will work independently to find and mark all of the quotes on the text. 3. When compete T will cold call for correct answers and check for understanding.
