in this lesson students focus on receptive skills of reading and reading for details and as an outcome the class will have a productive speaking session. stages are 1/ engaging learners with Q&A related to topic and asking them to guess it 2/writing questions from the important parts of the reading and asking them to read it aloud to clarify what should they look for 3/students will read the paragraphs for them self then comprehend with a partner 4/teacher chooses group members to answer the questions and share what they understood 5/cd will be played and then its learners turn to read the paragraphs then they can complete the 'understand from context' activity with partner the check the answers with class.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about the difference of americans and french eating habits

Subsidiary Aims

  • to provide speaking practice opportunity and to provide clarification and learning new vocabulary,


lead in (3-5 minutes) • to set lesson context and engage students

showing them pictures of two different figures and asking them ;why are they different what makes a person healthy what are some ways to stop gaining weight and then ask them to guess what topic is the reading about

pre-reading (2-3 minutes) • clarify what they should look for in the reading

teacher writes some important questions from the reading on board which includes some of the next activities questions too what is french and americans eating habits what is the difference between their grocery shopping habit what is the obesity rate among french children what does'clear their plates mean' .then ask learners to read them aloud and makes sure they understood by ccq

while reading (6-8 minutes) • to prepare students for text,reading aloud and finding answers

ask learners to read the text for themselves.try to find the answers then check with partners + ccq

post reading (10-15 minutes) • provide opportunity to speak,read,learn new vocab

play the cd then for the second time pause after each paragraph and ask volunteers to read then complete the next activity with class
