Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-0 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher greets the students then he asks them about their favorite restaurants. The teacher divides the students in to pairs and ask them to talk each other about their favorite restaurant, the food they like to order and why they like it. T tells the they have 5 minutes. ICQs: 1- Are you talking or writing? (talking) 2- Are working in pairs ? (yes) 3- What are you talking about? (favorite restaurant) 4- Are you say why it is your favorite ? (yes) 5- How much time do you have? (5 minutes) When they finish, the teacher gets content feedback and her responds with words like (Really, why , I like this restaurant).

Presentation (7-0 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation and the students learn to skim the text to get a general idea

The teacher shows the students a food menu (appendix) and he asks them to read it quickly to answer the following question? Do you know what this is? ( A food menu) Where do you find it ? (in a restaurant) What is the name of the restaurant? (Manchow wok) What kind of food the restaurant serves? (Chinese food)

PTV (7-0 minutes) • teaching hard words before reading for details

Teacher explains the meaning of the following words using pictures (appendix) and definitions table (appendix): Appetizers: a small amount of food eaten before a meal (Cambridge online dictionary) CCQs: 1- Is it the main meal? (No) 2- Do we eat it before the main meal? (yes) Sizzlers :They are basically a combination of one main dish served with a choice of sauces and a large variety of accompaniments (The Hindu article, appendix ) CCQs: 1- Does it consist of a one main dish only? (No, served with accompaniments) 2- Is it served with sauce? (yes) Desserts: sweet food eaten at the end of a meal (Cambridge online dictionary) CCQs: 1- Are they sweet? (yes) 2-Do we eat it before the meal? (No, at the end of a meal) Beverages: a drink of any type (Cambridge online dictionary) CCQs: 1- Is a beverage something we eat? (No, drink) 2- Is it a cold drink only? (No, it could be hot too) A Vegetarian: Some one who doesn't eat meat, poultry, fish and seafood (Heart foundation org. , see appendix) CCQs: 1- Does he vegetables ? (yes) 2- Does he eat meat ? (No) 3- Does he eat eggs ? (yes) Prawn: A small sea animal with a shell and ten legs, that can be eaten (Cambridge online dictionary) CCQs : 1- Does it live in the seas? (Yes) 2- Can we eat it ? (yes) 3- Can I peel it ? (Yes) Shrimp : A very small sea creature similar to a prawn but smaller, or its flesh eaten as food (Cambridge online dictionary) CCQs: 1- Does it live in the sea? (yes) 2- Can we eat it? (yes) 3- Is it smaller than a prawn ? (Yes) Oyster: a large flat sea creature that lives in a shell, some types of which can be eaten either cooked or uncooked, and other types of which produce pearls (= small round white precious stones) CCQs: 1- Does it live in the sea? (yes) 2- Can we eat all types ? (No) 3- Can we find pearls in it ? (yes)

Reading for details (8-0 minutes) • to teach the students how to scan a text to findsome specific details

The teacher asks the students to read again and pay attention to answer the following questions: 1- How many sizes of beverages the restaurant serves? (Four) 2- What are the sizes of the served beverages? (Super large, large, medium, and small) 3- How many salad types do they serve? (six) 4- What are the kinds of salads they serve? 5-Does the restaurant serve combo meals? How many people does it serve? (yes, it does - 10 people) 6- Does the menu include toffee banana? in which section? (yes, it does - in the desserts section) 7- How many dishes in the vegetarian section start with the word "vegetable"? (6 dishes) 8- Mention the names of the dishes that start with "vegetable".

Follow up (4-0 minutes) • to check the students comprehension, develop speaking skills and to respond the text content

Smooth transition " I think I may like Chinese food, what about you?" The teacher divides the students into groups of 3 The teacher gives instructions: 1-Talk about the content of the menu. 2-Would you like to try anything on this menu? which dish? Why? 3- Agree on whether to try it or not. 4- You have 4 minutes ICQs: 1- Are you talking about the menu? (yes) 2- Are you agreeing on whether to try it or not? (yes) 3- Are you saying why? (yes) 4- How much time do you have? (4 minutes) When they finish, the teacher gets content feedback and her responds with words like (Really, why , I like this restaurant).

Controlled practice (8-0 minutes) • to check the students' understanding with focus on accuracy

Controlled practice 1: Rearrange the following sentences: 1- a / , / eat / am/ I / I / vegetarian/ don't l / meat (I am a vegetarian, I don't eat meat) 2- the/ eat/ first/ then/ noodles/ dessert/ I/ the/ will ( I will eat the noodles first then the desserts) 3- some/ would/ like/ you/ appetizers/? (Would you like some appetizers?) controlled practice 2 : Filling the following conversation between a waiter and a customer: Waiter : Hello sir, Can I take you order? Customer : Hello, I am not sure what to order . Can I check the --------? (menu) Waiter : Of course, here you go. Customer : Would you recommend me something to start with? Waiter : Well , I highly recommend that you start with the------------ .We serve excellent spring rolls here. (Appetizers) Customer: Great, I will have that and I would like to have chicken and rice meal, please. Waiter: What ------ ? (size) . we have small, medium, ----- and ------- (large and super large) Customer: Medium, please. Waiter: Do you care for any --------- ? (dessert) Customer: Yes, I would like to have some toffee banana , please. Waiter: Any thing else? Customer: No, thank you.

Less controlled practice (6 minutes) • To enable students to practice the target language in a less-restricted manner with focus on accuracy and fluency

The teacher divides the students into pairs. The teacher gives instructions to use the same conversation in the controlled practice to practice speaking one of the pair is the customer and the other is the waiter and this time the students changes the meal order. The teacher models with a confident student : Waiter : Hello sir, Can I take you order? Customer : Hello, I am not sure what to order . Can I check the menu? Waiter : Of course, here you go. Customer : Would you recommend me something to start with? Waiter : Well , I highly recommend that you start with the appetizers .We serve excellent calamari salad here. (Appetizers) Customer: Great, I will have that and I would like to have Calamari, prawn and rice meal, please. Waiter: What size ? . we have small, medium, large and super large Customer: Medium, please. Waiter: Do you care for any dessert ? Customer: Yes, I would like to have some date pancake and a large soft drink can , please. Waiter: Any thing else? Customer: No, thank you.

Freer practice (7-0 minutes) • To enable students to practice the target language in a freer manner with more focus on fluency

The teacher divides the students in to groups of 3 and asks them to talk about a day in a restaurant they spent with their families or friends and when the students finish their discussion they should agree on who had the best day out and ate the best food. The teacher gives prompts ( what you ordered, the price , the taste is good or bad, who came with you...) and tells the students they have 10 minutes ICQs: 1- Are you talking about a day out in a restaurant? (yes) 2- Are you working alone ? (No, in groups of 3 ) 3- Are you agreeing on who ate the best food? (Yes) 4- How much time do you have? (10 minutes)

Production (8-0 minutes)

The teacher divides the students into groups then he asks them to talk about food in different countries. The teacher tells them they have 8 minutes. ICQs: 1- Are you talking about food in different countries? (Yes) 2- Are you working in groups ? (Yes) 3- How much time do you have? (8 min) When they finish, the teacher gets content feedback and her responds with words like (Really, why , I like this restaurant). At the end of the session the teacher gives language feedback and mistakes correction by saying " Great work today , I have some comments on some of the things you said today, let's check them on the board" . The teacher elicits the corrections from the students if possible.

Exit ticket (1 minutes) • To collect feedback from students

The teacher gets feedback about the session by asking " what do you think about today's session on a score from 1 to 5?"

Wrap up (1 minutes) • to summarize the session

The teacher asks the students what they learned during the session and wraps the session up.
