Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

preparation for reading/prediction (10-12 minutes) • to provide opportunities for oral fluency/to predict the content of the text

- revise giving basic information about people using one of the pictures (name, age, job, hobbies) - students discuss their pic in pairs - regroup and share ideas

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

jigsaw reading: each pair/small group read their text and decide whether their predictions were correct

reading comprehension (5-6 minutes) • to practise scanning

Highlighting (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

using two sentences from the text - I've got a computer + it's got a DVD player elicit the meaning + concept check, then practise the pronunciation (weak form, connected speech) + form (use box p. 18)

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice
