Main Aims

  • Writing: to enable students to develop their writing skills by writing in different form(e.g. an advertisement for different houses. )
  • To use appropriate vocabulary to describe places.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Reading: to enable students to improve their reading skill through different authentic materials from a variety of media sources.
  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in describing places.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher will discuss with the class different means of finding a house (e.g. adv, friend, internet) The teacher asks the following question: You and your family are moving to the capital because your brother joined the university. where can you find a house to live in?

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of the task and highlight useful words and phrases

teacher shows students an advertisement taken from the newspa[er as a good way to search for a house -teacher provides students with some vocabulary to describe a house (e.g. driveway,fence, central heating, security system,.....)

Task (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

- teacher puts students in groups of 5 - teacher Gives them the task instruction clearly: design an advertisement for a house of your choice write an advertisement for each house. Say if it is for rent/sale, what kind of house it is, how much it costs, what special features it has got and give a telephone number for contact. Don't forget to include a drawing or a picture.

Planning (6-8 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to plan students' reports

- teacher monitor while students work on their advertisements and give help if needed -teacher take notes of points that need clarification or students find it difficult. -students work in groups to plan and design their task

Report (6-8 minutes) • To allow students to report on how they did the task and how it went

Students finish the advertisements and each group read aloud their adv, to the class -students give peer feedback

Language Analysis (6-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the task language

- teacher uses his notes of the points that need improvement to clarify it. -students teach students the elements of well-written adv.(.use short sentences,start with a catchy , keep your ad short,re-read and rewrite as necessary, the opening statement needs to catch attention, the closing statement should call your readers to action. -teacher illustrates meaning of some confused vocab (e.g.attic ) teacher explains the meaning, the pronunciation and the form of the word.

Language Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with practice of the task language

Students work again on their ad to correct it and add any necessary changes to make it perfect and free of any spelling mistakes, grammatical mistakes, and convey the aim of the ad.

Gallery walk • more practice and feedback

students stick their ads on the wall and do a gallery walk and leave a comment to the other groups.Students write downk what did they like or wht they should have done.
