Description

In this lesson, ss will learn about interview context. The ss will practice speaking in a role-play in the context of professional interviews.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a role play in the context of interviews

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide detailed listening practice using a text about applying for a job in the context of interviews and to provide a model for the speaking task

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T tells a personal story. When I was a university student, I wanted to join a student activity. it was an art club and during the interview I was asked tell me how can you describe the color green to a blind person. I was shocked, I tried to tell he different things like: it feels smooth, it smells fresh ,feels like water. It's like running and freedom. I said every thing I could but still I wasn't accepted. So what do you think we are discussing today? S: interviews T: yes, Interviews for jobs, student activity and charity work . Great. so in pairs, Tell your partner about the weirdest interview you have ever had. and at the end we will find out who had the strangest interview ever. Monitor S, ask s about his/her interview and eventually determine which one is the strangest? Yesterday, you have applied for a job and today you are all invited to interviews.

Exposure (4-6 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through listening

Display the PPT Work T: What's the difference between these employees? Show pictures of employees Full time: does the employee work the whole week? Yes - She's working full-time. Part time: Do you work for the whole week? No Freelance: Do you have a permanent job? No Do you get paid monthly by the same person? No Demanding : Is it exhausting? Yes what do we call the job that needs attention? S:...... T: it's a demanding job Well-paid: T: What do we call the the job that pays well? S......... T: He has a well-paid job. qualifications: What helps you to get a job? T: Qualifications when you're in an interview you get asked: What are your qualifications? Hire: When you pass the interview, what does the interviewer say to you? S: You're hired. T: What about the tenses that we use in the interviews . T: What do you use to talk about your education, previous work experience? S: past simple I studied economics. T: What do we use to talk about our current job? S: Present simple T: I work as an engineer T: What do we use to talk about projects that started and will keep going in the future? S: Present continuous I’m doing my masters degree now T:What do we use to talk about projects that started a while a go and still present? S: present perfect continuous T: I have been working in a hospital for 10 years

Preparation (5-8 minutes) • To give ss written reference to prepare questions and answers for the interview

Draw a table and start scaffolding the questions and the answers T:What questions we hear on interviews S: Where did you study? T: And how do we answer S: I studied at..... T: What if you are still studying ? S: I'm studying at...... What else? T:Where do you work? S:I have been working at ..... for.... T: and if you're not working I worked at .... Would you like to work full-time, part-time or freelance? What else? T or S: Why did you leave your job ? It was a demanding job. It wasn't a well-paid job. what else? T: When can you start ? S: Immediately What else? (Mime money ) What's your expected salary? T: Do we have other questions? Wait for the students to come up with an extra question like where do you see yourself in 5 years? T: You're free to add any more questions  if you want

Productive Task(s) (10-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T: Now  for your interviews We have 3 versions An engineer An accountant And a teacher T: Each paper has two sides Once you will be an interviewer and once you will be an interviewee 1st on the right side write the questions you will be asking as an interviewer 2ndon the left  write the qualifications that you have as a interviewee T:Interview the person in front of you and decide will you hire your interviewee or not So T: Are you going to be only an interviewer? S: No T: Are you writing questions or answers now ? S: Both Prep for 3 min Now face each other and leave space Fold the paper Talk Monitor Find errors 5 minutes Now switch 5 minutes Now that you have interviewed each other, tell me T: S, why did you interview?  would you hire her?
