[Nice, I enjoyed it very much.] Did you go somewhere? [the club] Did you visit your grandparents? [Yes, I did] May be someone stayed home and didn't go anywhere. [I didn't visit anyone] Do you have a hobby that you like to do at home? [May be reading, drawing or art craft] What's your favourite book? I like that book too.

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Revising some of the vocabulary words of the previous unit. Ask the students to look at the pictures in p.21 and try to guess where these places are. Can you recognise any of these photos? Do you know where can we eat the dish in pic 1? Do you know the name of the statue in pic 3 and where is it located?

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

1) Ask some pre-reading questions. What are some of the cultural traditions in your country? What is your favourite traditional food? Have you ever visited any famous place in your country? 2) Introduce some of the blocking words in the text. typical, handicraft, exported, local, festival and sculpture. Through the ppt, students are given pictures of the blocking words to guess their meaning. Play an audio for the new words and ask the students to say them after the audio to follow correct pronunciation. Ask the students to read the text in 3 min to know the general idea about the text. 1) what is the typical dish in Korea? 2) What is Peru famous for?

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Students are asked to read the text again in details to understand what the topic is about. What are the countries the text talked about? What is Kimbab? Is it a type of food or clothing? Where can you buy silver earrings in Peru? What is the Singapore Ice festival? Have you been to any of these countries? Go back to the text and find a word that means: a) one or a group of musicians playing together b) wonderful

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Using mind maps to connect the ideas of the text together. Also using word maps to relate the family of each word and its part of speech.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ask the students to talk about some of the famous places in their country. Divide them into groups to work together. What are the famous traditional dishes? Do you have a traditional festival or event? What do people do and eat in that festival? Do you have a special musical instrument in your country? Divide the students into groups to work on the writing task. After discussing the points and eliciting them on the board, the students are asked to write a paragraph of 3 lines about the traditional dishes, events or costumes they have in their country.
