Description

In this lesson, the students are going to learn the causative have through a text that presents the grammatical form in context. The lesson starts by a picture that personalizes short stories. Then, the teacher presents the target language in context. This is followed by language clarification, a controlled practice and a production activity.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of the causative verb (have) in the context of visiting friends and relatives

  • To provide fluency speaking activity in the context of visiting friends.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T shows a picture of a couple visiting their family and ask some questions to generate interest. Ls are divided into two groups to answer the following question: Do you like visiting friends? why? How often do you visit your friends? Ls share their answers with the class as feedback.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T exposes Ls to a short text with an exercise. T uses context to introduce the target language to Ls. T highlights the target language and elicit some information from Ls.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T goes through MPF ( meaning, pronunciation, form) - T checks Ls understanding by asking CCQS to clarify their understanding when necessary. -T models and asks students to drill. -T elicits the form and record it.

Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T shows pictures to Ls and asks them to describe it using the target language. T gives instructions" use the causative have to complete the sentences and describe the pictures"

Free Practice (8-9 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T teacher shows a story as an example. -T gives instructions "tell your partner a story like this using the causative form" - Ls will be given 2 mins to prepare themselves. -Ls are divided into groups of pairs. Feedback content - language
