Description

This is a speaking lesson with an intention to provide Ss with opportunities practice speaking fluency for talking about preferences in the context of a dream holiday.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will ask my Ss 2 questions to think about and answer as a class. 1) Name a place that you have traveled to or would like to travel to. 2) Which of these are most important to you on a holiday? The weather The food Accommodation Shops Sightseeing/culture The scenery The nightlife Who you go with

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

T shows a slide with questions: How do we convey our preferences? Think of 1 phrase to: *Discuss different possibilities *Ask about holidays *Telling people about your holidays T calls on individual Ss to give examples of phrases.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T shows next slides with examples of phrases for each category. T models pronunciation and word stress for each of the phrases. Ss listen and state which words are stressed. Ss repeat T, reading the phrases T calls on individual Ss to repeat the phrases. Telling people about your holiday *We are going to the Bahamas. *I chose this holiday because I love beaches. *We are going to stay in a hotel. Asking about holidays *When/where are you going? *How long are you going for? *Why did you choose that holiday? *What excursions are you going on? Telling people about your holiday *We are going to the Bahamas. *I chose this holiday because I love beaches. *We are going to stay in a hotel.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T presents slide with pictures and descriptions of different holiday spots. Ss think about where their dream holiday would be and why. T sends Ss to break out rooms to discuss in partners which holiday spot they would choose and why. T asks CCQ: What are we doing? (choosing a dream holiday spot) Is it individual or in groups? (groups) How much time do you have? (5-7 minutes) Ss come back from break out rooms. T puts them in new groups to discuss further: Ask your new partner about the holiday you have planned. (Use the phrases for asking about holidays and telling people about your holiday). T asks CCQ: What are we doing? (choosing a dream holiday spot) Is it individual or in groups? (groups) How much time do you have? (5-7 minutes)

Feedback and Error Correction (3-4 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Ss come back from break out rooms. T shows slide with 5 sentences heard in break out rooms containing errors. T asks class to find the errors and they correct them as a class.
