Description

In this lesson students will learn about.about social customs and behavior. First, they will talk about social behavior in their country. After that They will listen for detailed listening for people talk about their customs. After that they will learn how to use generalizations to talk about customs. Finally, they will be given some time to speak about some questions about customs in their country.

Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will show a picture of two men greeting each other by touching noses. I will ask students about this photo. Students will elicit that people at Saudi Arabia greet each other by that way. Students will elicit the word custom. Then, they will have the chance to answer some questions to talk about customs in their country.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through listening

I will instruct them to listen to eight people talk about a social custom in their country. Students will take notes to talk about these customs. I will ask some ICQs: 1- Will you listen for people customs on their country? Yes 2- Will you take notes? Yes 3- How many people will you listen for? 8 I will model the first person with them. Student will take five minutes. I will check their answers and give them feedback.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

I will highlight and clarify the language used in the listening in the exposure stage . a) What to do - Generally people .......... - Most Egyptian people ............. - Always remember to ........... - It's polite/ unusual / important /ok / common to ...... - Don't be surprised if ................. - People expect you to .................... b) What not to do : - You should never ................ - These days, nobody ................. - No body cares about ................... - It might be strange if you ..................... - It is not acceptable to ............... I will use ECDW to present the useful language. I will drill them by finger highlighting and write them on the board.

Preparation (5-8 minutes) • Students will be better able to use language for the speaking task

Students will have five minutes to take notes about different social behavior in their countries.

Productive Task(s) (10-12 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

I will ask students to speak for ten minutes for fluency in a dialogue about different social behavior. | will ask some CCQs: 1- Will you talk about different social behavior? yes 2- Will you read from your whole paper? No 3- Will you use the paper to help you remember some points? yes 4- Will you speak with one person or as many as you can? Students will have ten minutes to mingle and talk freely. I will monitor them without interrupting and give help when needed. Then, I will check their content by asking who has the same custom. I will write from two to three sentence to check them linguisticallt.
