Description

23 children around 11 years old, (12 boys and 11 girls) with a narrow attention span, whose inner selves knowledge is somewhat limited due to their age, Eleven students are kinesthetic, nine are visual-spatial, and three are auditory learners. These students have been learning throughout the year on-line, they are well equiped and are familliar with the platforms we will be using (Zoom/Nearpod) In case we may encounter some internet connection problems (As we sometimes had in the past) the whole lesson and materials will be uploaded into the Ss Google Classroom, so they can still have access to mostly everything.

Materials

Main Aims

  • In this lesson, students will better interpret the use collocations and apply them correctly while speaking or writing.ons with make and apply them correctly while speaking.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Elicit previous knowledge from Ss by asking them if they have ever heard the expression “Make money!”. Explain to Ss that some words in English have to go together “naturally for native speakers” to express certain ideas that may not have meaning in Spanish. Those ideas are called collocations. Have Ss watch the video Collocation an introduction.

Exposure (5-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T explains to Ss with Collocations with MAKE interactive presentation: Understand the meaning of the item: Collocations: Collocations with make video Starts in minute 4:39-5:18 Make Collocation explanation Examples with meaning and example: 5:33-8:04 Ss write their understanding of make so as to activate schemata.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Fill in the blanks exercise that includes controlled practice for meaning, synonym, and antonyms.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Hear and see an example of the item in context: have Ss watch Collocations with make video Starts in minute 4:39-5:18 Make Collocation explanation Examples with meaning: 5:33-8:04 Students practice the chunks of language through matching pairs so as to infer meaning.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Pay attention to the item and notice its features with oral practice to: Notice the words that go together. Generating related words (Make: Money, fortune, profit, loss, much, any) Drilling variations in chunks. (Make: Money, fortune, profit, loss) Conscious memorisation of collocations. Being encouraged to correct and reformulate the spoken and written outcome in such a way that students become more aware of the language.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Creating their own examples for freer practice, Ss write their own sentences using chunks of language Make + collocations.
