Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ss will be split into BORs to discuss a personal story where something good or bad happened to them. They will discuss how they felt. This should prime them for talking about feelings.

Exposure (7-8 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Share screen of the Google Slide document. Students will have time to first read the sentences a-h and see where the blanks are. Ss will listen to the audio independently, and fill in what the audio said. Afterward, students will be put in BORs to compare their answers. One thing that always ________________ is I say the wrong thing at the wrong time. There’s only ________________ me… It just ________________ crazy. I find all sorts of strange situations ________________. The thing ________________ horror films. It just puts me ________________ mood. I ________________ snakes. I know you ________________, but I ________________ laughing.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

1. Share Meaning Form with Ss. They will select the correct answer and submit their forms. I will go over the answers with them looking for any that posed an issue. 2. Share Form Jamboard with Ss. Ss must match the sticky note to the types of words that may go into the blank. This exercise will be done in pairs. 3. Share Pronunciation Form with Ss. Ss will listen to recordings of two to three of the sentences from earlier. They will have to select the the correct option among two. Each will have a differing pattern of stress which Ss should be listening for.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

1. Ss will tell a story about something that correlates with one of the topics given (different emotions). They will have 2-3 minutes. 2. Ss will try to incorporate a few of the useful language points into their story so that they are utilizing what they have learned from the earlier stages of the lesson. 3. Ss will be put into groups of 2-3 and share their stories with each other. Notice what language the Ss are using, which ones they aren't, and which stories are good. Scramble the groups after a few minutes so they can share with others.

Feedback and Error Correction (4-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Select some Ss to retell their best stories. Do DEC on common errors, but also show appreciation for good uses of language. Make notes of all aspects of MFP.
