Description

In this lesson, students will have the opportunity to practise speaking skills together with listening skills through the context of everyday conversations.

Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson students will be better able to speak everyday language in different everyday conversations.

Subsidiary Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, students will have the opportunity to practise listening skills to understand everyday language

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To introduce the topic and to interest students

Teacher displays a picture of shaking people and asks Ss to predict what they are doing.Ss work in pairs.Teacher monitors.

Presentation of Patterns (8-10 minutes) • To introduce them the patters of everyday language

Teacher writes greeting words on the board and teaches Ss how to greet formally and informally. Then teacher asks Ss to greet each other .Ss speak one by one.Teacher monitors and gives feedback. Teacher teaches "How are you? " question and models the answer.Then the teacher asks Ss to do pair work and greet and ask how they are to each other. Teacher shows the handout to Ss and ask them to build conversations with the lines.Ss do pair work.Teacher monitors and gives feedback.

Listening 1 (3-5 minutes) • To let students learn the intonation.

Teacher asks students to listen to the track and be careful with the intonation of lines in the boxes.Ss listen and teacher stays away from them. Then the teacher plays the recording pausing after each conversation to ask Friends or Not? Ss reply as whole class

Pre-listening (3-5 minutes) • To make students familiar with the context

Teacher focuses attention on the photos on the handouts.Teacher asks Ss who the people are and where they are.Teacher does the first example and elicit answers from class and then asks the Ss to complete the conversations.Ss do pair work Tteacher monitors and helps if neccessary.

Listening 2 (3-5 minutes) • To let the students check their completion of conversations and act out the conversations.

Teacher plays the record for all conversations and asks students to check their answers. Teacher helps the Ss with unknown structures like Can I...? Then teacher asks pairs to act out their conversations. Teacher observes and corrects if neccessary.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To enable the Ss produce their own language

Teacher asks students to stand up and pastes new identities on them. The students suppose that they are at a party and they meet either new people or their friends. They will tour around the common room and are assigned to make at least three conversations with three differet Ss. Ss individually choose whoever they want and then the teacher chooses the volunteers to act out their conversation
