Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about celebrating in the context of festival

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of festival

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will show a picture to students about the Easter. I will ask them what do you know about the picture. What is the name of this festival? What do they do? I will ask them to discuss in pairs about one of the festivals in their country and what do they know and do. I will moniter them and give help when needed.I will ask them if discussed the same topics or they do the same thing

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-I will introduce new vocabulary to students: festival /ˈfestəvəl/ fascinating /ˈfæsɪneɪtɪŋ/ throw /θrəʊ/ celebrate /ˈselɪbreɪt/ battle. /ˈbætl/ - I will give them ccqs when it is necessary. - I will drill them chorally, in pairs, and individually. - I will show the new word written on the project..

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

- I will ask the students to read the magazine quickly to match the picture with the paragraphs. - I will model the first paragraph with them and match it with a picture. - I will ask them icqs: Will you read every single word or read it fast? Will you write words or number? - I will monitor them and give assistance when needed. - students will check answers together and I will show it on the projector. * ask students to read again for some details. *I will model the first question and give them two minutes to finish the activity. - I will ask them icqs: Will you read every single word or read it fast? While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

- I will ask the students to listen to audio to guess the meaning of the highlighted word. - I will model the first word with them. - I will ask them icqs: Will you listen every single word or read it fast? Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

I will ask student about their favorite time of the day in pairs. I will monitor them and give help when needed. I will ask them if any of the class has the same time of the day. I will write two to three sentences on the board with errors to fix.
