Procedure

Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To introduce the form in the context of relationship

Introducing the lesson/ Setting the context of relationships with pictures of couples. Students discuss how couples meet. I will put pictures on the board and have them talk about the place where they are and whether they know each other. I will pre-teach "queue" and "go out with". I will also ask them how they met their partners or if they don't have any how their parents did.

listening (5-7 minutes) • To engage Ss in listening activity for T/F activity

I will read something out and the students should be able to say whether they guessed correctly or not.

Grammar (18-19 minutes) • To learn and to find out how the past continuous should be used and checking concepts

The past continuous is taught through a grouping activity. It is explained through a timeline and then the concept is checked with multiple sentences and questions in hand-out 1. The students are then exposed to the form and asked to do a fill-in activity in HO 2.

pronunciation practice (5-6 minutes) • To learn the weak form of "was" and "were"

the sentences on the board are modelled and the students are asked to repeat after the teacher. Feedback is provided if sts are still in doubt as to how to pronounce them,

Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To highlight and clarify the past continuous for coming productive tasks

The sts are expected to work individually and then in pairs to answer the questions in two exercises in HO 3. Early finishers are told to check the answers with their neighbors.
