Main Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of healthy lifestyle.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about Healthy life in the context of lifestyle


Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T shows Ss a Slide with two photos and a question: How old do you think Alexis and María are? Elicit answers. Show the answers, Ss read and check their answers.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of language expected to use in coming tasks through reading/listening

Ss read the text "The Island of Okinawa" for two minutes, T will nominate students to answer the question: Are the Okinawans habits positive or negative for their health? Would you like to have Okinawans lifestyle? Ss answer to a poll. Now students answer a true or false exercise individually for 1 min, Ss check their answers at the end of the game. Now they play a game where they have to order the adverbs of frequency, they see by dragging them from the most frequent to the least. They check their answer at the end of the game. OCFB.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Ss play a second game, they have to read the sentences, select and complete with the right ending. Ss discuss their answers in pairs. T gives feedback and explains the position of adverbs of frequency with examples and nominate Ss: In this sentence, what is the position of the adverb in this sentence? After or before the verb? Where is located the time expression? at the end or at the beginning of the sentence? In every case T reveals the answer so they can check.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T gives instructions to students and sends them Student A HO and Student B HO, CQs: Are you writing your answer from the text? No, are you reading aloud to your partner? No, are you sharing information about your reading using the answers? T assign Ss HO, Students read the text, answer the questions in 3 min individually, then they go to BOR to share information with their partner about the place, then in pairs they compare and answer: what do the two places have in common? Are there people in your country with a similar lifestyle? They discuss their ideas for 5 min.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

In OC T will nominate Ss to share what they found interesting about their partner information and what were their conclusions. The teacher will share with Ss some sentences from Ss and ask them to correct them by nominating some of them.
