A1 level


In this lesson, students will obtain personal information of some people from business cards and use this information on some exercises. They will also be introduced to capital letters and where to use them through a matching activity. This will later be followed by a small "fill in the form" writing exercise and a speaking exercise.

Main Aims

  • To provide reading and writing practice using business cards and forms in the context of personal information

  • To get the students to be familiar with presentation of personal information


Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will put the pictures and business cards on the board and ask Ss to match pictures to the business cards.

Controlled practice (Vocab.) (5-7 minutes) • To get Ss to exercise what they have learned in the lead-in stage

-T gives the small business cards and HOs and Ss work individually and then check with their pairs. -T checks.

Help with writing (5-7 minutes) • To introduce when to use capital letters

-T gives matching exercise HOs about when to use capital letters -Ss work in pairs -T checks answers with the class

Writing practice (4-6 minutes) • To get Ss to practice writing

-T groups SS and gives one envelope-containing strips of papers with sentences on- to each group -Ss take it in turn to take one sentence from the envelope and add capital letters to it -T gives an answer key for sts to check with and take home

Writing portfolio (8-12 minutes) • To get Ss to exercise further and prepare Ss for the speaking activity with the same form

-T gives hotel form HOs, Ss look at the business cards given previously and complete the hotel form -Ss check in pairs

Speaking practice (10-12 minutes) • To get Ss practice speaking via a hotel form

-T gives hotel form 2 HOs -Ss work in pairs, ask their partners questions, get answers and note on their forms

If-time activity (10-12 minutes) • To get Ss to do further speaking exercise

-Ss change pairs -T gives hotel form 2 HOs -Ss do the same exercise with different partners
