Description

In this lesson, SS will be engaged in Grammar, developed by a Guided Discovery related to verbs followed by both gerund and infinitive, this will be followed Ss working on productive skills with a writing activity in the context in Wealth and Fame based on 5 quotes from different celebrities.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide knowledge about gerunds and infinitives through a reading practice using a text about quotes from celebrities in the context of wealth and fame

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of gerunds and infinitives in the context of looking at text quotes from celebrities

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will first give a brief explanation about what gerunds are and how infinitives are used, this will be followed by an introductory activity with the image of the quotes and the question: Which quote do you like the best , and why? in Google Forms in Breakout Rooms, then T will conduct feedback in MainRoom.

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading

A small activity will be conducted in GoogleForms and BreakoutRooms. Ss will choose words form a box exposed and have to differentiate the gerunds and the infinitives. To provide specific information and detailed grammar practice from a given text that includes phrases such as: - A GERUND is the -ing form of a verb that functions as a noun. - An INFINITIVE usually begins with the word 'to' and is followed by the base form of a verb EXAMPLE: Gerund: running is fun Infinitive: to run, is fun

Clarification (5-7 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks (MFP)

The activity will be about how to put gerunds and infinitives use to understand. A group of words and phrases will be in a box and Ss have to answer which of the verbs and phrases are followed by an infinitive or a gerund? to cover the Meaning and Form in Google Forms. Pronunciation will be conducted by putting the phrase 'Wealth and Fame' exposed in the Google Jamboard platform and T will model the phrase 3 times and expose the syllables for the phrase, intonation will be covered as a high start and a low ending and connected words with linking sound will be in 'wealth_and'. T will ask Ss to drill the phrase 'wealth and fame' with the T.

Controlled Practice (8-12 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

A small activity will be conducted in Google Forms (Task 4) where Ss have to answer 2 CCQs: 1. How many quotes have gerunds in them? 2. How many quotes have infinitives? Followed by a Jamboard activity where Ss have to match the quotes from the text with the correct sentences.

Freer Practice and Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

For Freer Practice Ss have to write a short story of 4 lines using gerunds and infinitives in MainRoom using GoogleForms for 4 minutes and then Feedback and DEC will be conducted by T for 5 minutes
