Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-- Greet SS -- Share slides with SS -- Ask SS "When you feel sad, what do you do to feel better?" -- Elicit responses from each student -- Explain that this lesson is about the first conditional, and that they just created a first conditional sentence of their own.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

-- T shares slide two with SS -- T explains If/when + present simple + will/could/might + verb construction -- T reviews three examples with SS as a group -- T instructs SS to break down the three sentences into if/when, present simple, and the will/could/might + verb -- T gives SS three minutes to work individually -- T and SS reconvene and share answers

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

-- T shares slide 4 with SS -- T gives SS five minutes to complete the sentences individually -- T and SS reconvene -- T and SS go over answers -- T shares google forms with SS -- T gives SS five minutes to complete task -- T instructs SS to complete task individually, and not to submit it -- T and SS reconvene and go over answers

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

-- T shares slide five with SS -- T instructs SS to come up with five sentences about their future goals/plans using the first conditional -- T gives students five minutes to complete the task individually -- After five minutes, T and SS reconvene and SS share answers -- T ends lesson with recap -- T thanks SS
