  • To generate interest in the topic of the lesson and develop oral fluency.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide writing practice in a context.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students look at some pictures and guess which places are there in the pictures.

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

Give students handouts to categorize the target language as locations or adjectives.

Teach (15-20 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

Display a picture of each word on the screen. Ask students some questions through which you may be able to elicit a synonym for each word. Pronounce the word giving much focus on the word stress and its part of speech. Ask some questions relating to the word form, e.g. Is it a countable noun? Write the word on the board marking the stress. Model and drill the target language with the class.

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

Give students matching or a gap filling handouts to check comprehension.

Free practice (13-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students will write about their favorite places. They later exchange their pieces of writing discussing what they liked the most about the other students' favorite places.
