Description

In this lesson students will learn how to make a speech, vote for a party in election and speak fluently. They will learn speaking skill through making an election speech.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To give students practice in speaking for fluency through making an election speech.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To give Ss the oportunity to practice future perfect and continuous and future time phrases. To encourage Ss to think about how to make ideas seem optimistic.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage the students

T greets students and asks them if they remember the word optimism they learned a day before. Teacher asks them if they are optimistic about the future of their country. He asks them if they remember any optimistic statement of their party leader.

Matching pictures, optimistic statements with the categories (8-10 minutes) • To improve their understanding for useful language

T writes/posts categories like crime, healthcare, child care etc on board, shows them pictures and asks them to match the pictures withthe words. T writes/posts an optimistic statement on the board. He asks students to match the statement to one of the categories.

Writing optimistic statements (10-12 minutes) • To improve their writing

T puts students in pairs and asks them to write two optimistic statements about two of the categories on the board. T asks rest of the class to guess which category they belong to.

Optimistic speech (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students to give an optimistic speech.

T keeps students in pairs or small groups and distributes worksheets to each pair. Tells them they are going to write and then give an optimistic speech. He makes them give themselves a party name.

Presenting speech (8-10 minutes) • To improve speaking skills of the students

Ss deliver speeches and T asks them to vote for the best speech. T gives positive some FB and corrects errors.
