Main Aims

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about conversation on a first date in the context of restaurant, ordering food


Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To engage learners and activate their previous knowledge of topic area. To provide an initial familiarity with the text.

T asks SS to read the text and guess who the person is. SS write their answers on the chat box.

Presentation through text (8 minutes) • To show TL in context

T displays a text and 3 pictures. SS read the text. SS try to find the right picture for the text. Pair checking in break out rooms T runs OCFB

Clarification (12 minutes) • Covering MFP(A) of the TL

T elicits TL by using images. SS matches the words with images. T explains the form. SS fills the blanks in the exercise with the correct form. T runs chroal drill.

Controlled Practise (8 minutes) • To encourage SS to produce TL within a restricted context.

T demos the first question of the exercise SS fill in the blanks with the right phrasal verb, with the right form. SS discuss their answers in the break out rooms. T runs OCFB

Freer Practice (7 minutes) • To encourage SS to produce language using the TL freely

T reminds the rules of "Guess who?" game T demos a round of game with a student. T asks SS to play the game with their pairs in break out rooms T observes SS's productions of the TL and takes notes.

Delayed Error Correction (5 minutes) • To avoid interrupting fluency of SS

T takes notes from SS production. T writes some common mistakes on the board. T asks SS to correct the forms/sentences/pronunciation T runs a choral drill for pronunciation errors. SS discuss about the answers. T displays the correct form.
